Leading Edge Pest Management, Inc. Company Profile

The term "Leading Edge" is not just hype in the case of Pleasant Hill CA resident David Roe's business, Leading Edge Pest Management in Contra Costa County. He has more than 43 years experience working with bugs and pests, and is always looking for the newest and best technologies. Sometimes the methods are unusual or surprising, but to Leading Edge Pest Management, always worth taking advantage of. Witness the termite-sniffing dog, Herman. In what was cutting-edge science in the seventies, David Roe implemented doggy-assisted search and destroy missions using canines' keen sensing to locate and thereby exterminate bugs. (David and Herman appeared on the old television show "That's Incredible.") His willingness to embrace new techniques sets David apart from other pest management companies.

Straightforward Low-Tech Approach
Don't be misled, however; David Roe is not just a chemically-inclined joiner. Sometimes, says David, "the best technology is a straightforward, low-tech approach." Other alternative forms of pest management David has tried include nematodes, orange oil, and pheromone traps.

David Roe is proud to have developed over the years a method of exterminating drywood termites without fumigation. His method involves termiticide and foam, a non-repellant form of extermination. Often drywood termites are fumigated with gases. Many of us are familiar with the big, garish, circus tent enclosing a building filled with noxious gas, potentially stigmatizing a home or business. David prefers his method which literally terminates the pests. Not surprisingly, homeowners and businesses often prefer David's method as well.

Integrated Pest Management
It is a tenet of Integrated Pest Management, or IPM, that one utilizes the "safest possible solution, in the safest possible way." David Roe and Leading Edge Pest Management are highly regarded among industry peers for his breadth of experience in this philosophy of pest control. IPM is a system of living with the reality of life on earth: pests exist, no one wants pests, but wholesale destruction brought by chemical bombardment often has unfortunate, if not unsuccessful, results. Instead of a "scorched earth" take-no-prisoners approach, IPM is a system of controlling pests by combining biological, chemical, cultural, mechanical and physical control methods in a way that minimizes economic, health and environmental risks. David stresses that IPM is so successful because it works, not because it is trendy or critter-friendly.

Community Leader
David Roe is a leader in pest control, and it is easy to see why; when you love your work, 43 years of it will make you an expert. As evidence of his leadership, David was chairman of his local chapter of the PCOC (Pest Control Operators of California) for seven years, and served as state-wide pest arbitration chairman.

Leading Edge maintains a relatively small staff, but holds onto good employees. Employees at Leading Edge have been with the company an average of seven to 12 years. As part of his involvement in the communities he serves, David is often called on to treat a low-income or neglected property. Often an inspector will ask Leading Edge to treat an urgent pest problem, irrespective of a party's ability to pay for the service. David, as a true pillar of his field, does not turn these jobs away. Additionally, David is on the committee for the restoration of Roger's Ranch, a "living history" ranch in Pleasant Hill on the National Register of Historic Places. He was voted Business Person of the Year by the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce. David was also presented with a certificate of special Congressional recognition for outstanding and invaluable service to the community.
